ID: Q231691

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 98
  • Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release versions 2, 2.1, 2.5

SYMPTOMS

When you start your computer, or when you run Norton Disk Doctor, you may receive the following error message many times:

Norton Disk Doctor has found the following errors in Foldername.

Entries with invalid Dates
Entries with invalid Time Stamps

Do you wish to fix these errors

If you click Yes, the dates for all the files are changed to a date in 1980 (usually 01-04-80).

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are running Norton Disk Doctor 4.0 and the computer's CMOS contains an incorrect date (which can occur if the computer's system battery is weak or expired).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method:

Method 1

Contact Norton for a possible resolution.

Method 2

Replace your computer's system battery. Make a backup of all your data files, reformat the hard disk, reinstall all of your programs, and then restore the data files from backup.

MORE INFORMATION

Correcting the time and date in the CMOS or replacing the weak CMOS battery once the dates have been changed does not resolve the issue.
