SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Netscape Communicator version 4.08 or later after you install Windows 98, you may receive the following error message:

Netscape executed an invalid instruction in module unknown.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you have SurfWatch version 3.0 for Windows 95 installed on your computer. SurfWatch version 3.0 for Windows 95 requires Winsock version 1.1 and does not work correctly with the version of Winsock included in Windows 98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact SurfWatch to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.

To work around this issue, uninstall SurfWatch version 3.0 for Windows 95.
