Error Message Disables Power Management Events

SYMPTOMS

When you receive the error message "Your computer cannot go into standby," any of the following symptoms may occur:

  • Power management events may be disabled.


  • Power status events may not be detected.


  • Critically low power events may not be detected.



CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Vpowerd.vxd file may be in use while the error message dialog box is displayed. As a result, the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is not polled for power-management events.


RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, click OK to acknowledge the error message and free the Vpowerd.vxd file.
