PRB: IrDA Transfer Speeds with the Acer TravelMate 721TX

SYMPTOMS

Using the Acer TravelMate 721TX with Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition, the maximum transfer rate across the IrDA port is 115 kilobits per second (kbps). The Acer TravelMate 721TX utilizes the National Semiconductor 97338 chipset for IrDA functionality. Using Windows 2000 Beta 3, the maximum transfer rate across the IrDA port is 115 kbps.


RESOLUTION

National Semiconductor will be releasing a fix that contains a set of IrDA drivers for this issue.


STATUS

This behavior is by design. This is fixed in build 2054 of Windows 2000.
