Dial-Up Networking Does Not Start

SYMPTOMS

When you double-click the dial-up networking connection icon, or when you double-click the Make New Connection icon, the following error message may be displayed:

Dial-Up Networking cannot start. Restart your computer, and then try again. If the problem persists, re-install Dial-Up Networking.
The following error may also be displayed when you try to run the Modem tool in Control Panel:
TAPISRV caused an invalid page fault in module TAPISRV.EXE at 0167:00404a55.


CAUSE

This problem is caused by an incompatibility with Criss + Cross Plus v5.1.58 from Haynes and Company Inc.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, contact Haynes software at 800-697-4550 to obtain version 5.2.3 or greater of Criss + Cross Plus.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, uninstall Criss + Cross Plus v5.1.58 using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
