  • Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Yamaha YSTMS55D USB speaker set, the speakers may have little or no volume when you attempt to use the volume control knob on the speakers.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because of an incompatible Yamaha driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reinstall the Windows 95/98 driver for the Yamaha USB device, the Yamaha Human Interface Device and the Yamaha Sound recorder from the original installation media.

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

  2. On the Device Manager tab, double-click the Sound, video and game controllers branch to expand it, and then double-click the Yamaha USB device.

  3. On the Driver tab, click Update Driver, click Next, click Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want, and then click Next.

  4. Click the appropriate Yamaha driver, click Next, click Next, click Finish, and then click Yes to restart your computer.

NOTE: You need to update the driver for all Yamaha devices installed.

After you change the drivers, you need to open the Volume Control tool and move the volume settings to the highest level. You can then use the volume knob on the speakers to receive sound.
