SYMPTOMSIf your computer contains an audio device that uses Windows Driver Model (WDM) drivers, the sound levels may be set to maximum values and you may be unable to adjust those levels by using the Volume control after you perform one of the following actions:
CAUSEAll of these actions cause hardware resources (IRQs, IO port addresses, and so on) to be rebalanced. When hardware resources are rebalanced, the Windows WDM audio driver (Wdmaud.sys) does not correctly reinitialize itself to allow proper functionality with the new hardware configuration. RESOLUTIONA supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but
it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems
