CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following registry key is missing or damaged:

RESOLUTION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. To resolve this behavior, repair the registry key using Regedit.exe:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

  2. Locate the following registry key:

  3. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Inffile\Shell\Install
  4. Right-click the Default value and verify that the value data is &Install.

  5. NOTE: If the Install key is missing, use the following steps:

    1. Click Shell, click Edit, point to New, and then click Key to re-create the Install key.

    2. Right-click Default value, and then click Modify to add the value data.
