Windows NT Hangs on Shutdown with Certain PCMCIA Devices

SYMPTOMS

Windows NT fails to shutdown correctly on some computers that have PCMCIA devices installed.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, obtain the following update or obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0.

A modified PCMCIA driver for Windows NT, and instructions for installing them, are available from Microsoft support channels or directly from the following Internet locations:

For Windows NT 3.51:

For Windows NT 4.00:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT versions 3.51 and 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 U.S. Service Pack. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
