CAUSE
When Setup prompts you for a computer name, you are allowed to create an
invalid computer name by entering braces ("{}") as the first two characters
of the computer name.
Due to the way the .INF files in Setup process the computer name, a computer name that begins with braces always passes the validation tests; however, the invalid computer name eventually causes Setup to fail when Setup attempts to register the computer name. RESOLUTIONTo avoid this problem, do not use braces at the beginning of a computer name. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. Additional query words: prodnt
