The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSPowerbuilder client server applications that utilize the IPX/SPX Compatible Protocol (NWLINK) running under Windows for Workgroups or Windows 95 may experience a performance problem. The query from this client against SQL Server running under Windows NT may take a long time to process. Other similar types of applications may encounter the same problem. CAUSEBecause the DIRECTHOST feature only supports half-duplex communication (only one command outstanding on the IPX session at a time), this feature causes a decrease in perfomance with network applications that use named pipes to connect. RESOLUTION
Disable the DIRECTHOST feature.
Steps to disable the feature in Windows 95: WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows 95. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
