SYMPTOMSWhen you re-create administrative shares (ADMIN$, C$, D$) from Windows NT version 4.0 Server Manager, a general protection fault occurs with the following message:
CAUSEWhen you try to specify the permissions when re-creating the administrative shares through Server Manager, it causes an access violation in services.exe. MORE INFORMATIONSteps to reproduce the problem
RESOLUTION
Do not set the permissions on the new administrative share. This problem
does not appear if you do not try to specify the permissions for the newly
created administrative share.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 U.S. Service Pack.
