SYMPTOMS
When applications try to locate a file that does not have a 3-digit
extension (no extension or 1-2 character extension), they may fail.
CAUSE
When a Windows NT 4.0 server receives a service message block (SMB) search
command for a file name with no extension, the server returns an SMB search
response in which the file name field is not correctly populated.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 U.S. Service Pack.
