SYMPTOMSAfter you apply Service Pack 5 for Windows NT 3.51 or upgrading to Windows NT 4.0 and FPNW for 4.0, any Microsoft Mail postoffices that are shared using File and Print Services for NetWare (FPNW) may experience errors. External.exe may log an error [012] when delivering mail to the postoffice. Dirsync.exe may not run automatically, and may generate warning [154]. When you perform a manual DirSync, the postoffice will receive updates but will not send any updates to other postoffices. CAUSEA problem was introduced while attempting to improve an OS/2 file-date issue. RESOLUTION
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor
can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT versions 3.51.
A supported fix is now available, but is not fully regression
tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific
problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem,
Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains
this fix. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for more information.
