SYMPTOMSThe Windows 95 Domain Name Service (DNS) resolver may have a problem when receiving a DNS response packet that contains greater than 28 addresses. For example, if you have 29 A records with the same host name, but different IP addresses, and a Windows 95 client attempts to resolve that name, the query will fail with the following error message:
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 or later. For information about how to obtain the latest service pack, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. ARTICLE-ID: Q152734 Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 introduced a new new registry value that lets you limit the number of A records returned for a DNS query to between five and twenty eight. To implement this change, do the following: WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
