WinNT Error Message: Could Not Locate Ws2_32.dll When SNMP Starts

SYMPTOMS
When your computer running Windows NT version 3.51 starts, you may receive
the following error message:
Could not locate WS2_32.DLL. Hit OK to continued.
NOTE: You have a version of Compaq's Insight Manager installed in addition
to the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) service that ships with
Windows NT.
CAUSE
There are conflicting versions of files on the computer because of the
removal and reinstallation of certain network components.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the following steps:
- Completely uninstall the Insight Agents service.
NOTE: For instructions on how to uninstall Insight Agent, please
refer to the Insight Agent documentation.
- Restart the computer.
- Remove the SNMP service:
- In Control Panel, double-click Network.
- Select the SNMP service from the Installed Network Software list and
then click Remove.
- Click Yes to the confirmation dialog.
- Click Restart Now.
- Reinstall SNMP service:
- In Control Panel, double-click Network.
- Click Add Software, select TCP/IP and related components in the
Network Software drop-down list, and click Continue.
- Click to select SNMP Service and click Continue.
- Provide the path to your Windows NT source files and click Continue.
For example:
D:\i386
- Configure your SNMP options and click OK.
- Click Close and click Don't Restart Now.
- Reapply Windows NT version 3.51 Service Pack 5.
NOTE: Do not restart your computer when prompted.
- Reapply the latest Compaq SSD and restart your computer when prompted.
- Reinstall Insight Agent.
