How to Remove Document Templates from the New Menu

When you right-click the desktop and then click New, document templates are listed from which you can create new files. This article describes how to remove a document template from this list.

To remove a document template, use Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) to locate the following registry key:

HKey_Classes_Root

Click the extension for the file type you want to remove from the New menu, delete its ShellNew entry, and then quit Registry Editor.
