When you dial into a Remote Access Services (RAS) server from a Windows
95/98 Dial-Up Networking client, you may be prompted to change your
password. When you attempt to do so, you may receive one of the following
error messages:
CAUSEThis behavior can occur if the wrong user credentials are being passed to the Windows NT server. RESOLUTION
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry
Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Method 1Leave the user name, password, and domain name blank when you create a phone book entry for dialing into the Windows NT server. This ensures that you are prompted for those credentials.Method 2Using Registry Editor, add the Domain string value with a value data of <domain name>, where <domain name> is the domain server validating your credentials, to the following registry keyHKEY_CURRENT_USER\RemoteAccess\Profile\<connection name> where <connection name> is the name of the Dial-Up Networking connection you are using. NOTE: If the User string value is not in the registry key, add it with a value data of <username>, where <username> is the name you use to log on to the domain server.
