STOP 0x0000000A or STOP 0x00000050 in NTOSKRNL.EXE

SYMPTOMS

During the execution of a program, a "STOP 0x0000000A" or "STOP 0x00000050" error message may appear.

The parameters of the stop code may vary.

The problem only occurs with Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 installed.

The issue was first noticed during the second portion of Exceed 6.1 Setup if the workstation files are stored on a NetWare 4.11 server. Various other scenarios can reproduce the same issue.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows NT 4.00 service pack that contains this fix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Windows NT version 4.0 Service Pack 5.

The fix is actually a post-Service Pack 3 Hotfix for customers running Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3.
