SYMPTOMS

A stop 0x0000000A or stop 0x000000050 is received in Nwlnkipx.sys when source routing information exceeds 18 bytes in length. Source routing information exceeding 18 bytes in length causes stack corruption and, therefore, the trap.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT version 4.0 Service Pack 5.


MORE INFORMATION

According to the 802.5 Specification, source routing information can be up to 31 bytes in length. Originally this maximum length was 18 bytes to allow for a maximum 7 hops. This was later extended to 31 bytes.
