Handle Leak Occurs When Using RasDial API

ID: Q197517

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

A handle leak may occur while using the RasDial API. After the connection is closed using RasHangUp, you may notice that the handle count of the application does not return to the value before the RasDial call. This is more noticeable on applications that continually make connections using RasDial and then close them using RasHangup.

CAUSE

RasDial opens a handle to the process token and does not close it, which causes the handle count to increase every time RasDial is called.
