Stop 0xA in Netbt.sys When Querying the DNS for a NetBIOS Name

SYMPTOMS

Your computer running Windows NT may stop with a blue screen Stop 0xA error in Netbt.sys when it attempts to resolve a name in the DNS namespace.


CAUSE

When performing name resolution operations in some environments, Windows NT computers dereference a tracking object twice.


RESOLUTION

Windows NT Server or Workstation 4.0

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 5 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 5.
