"Error 629" Connecting to Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol Server

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to connect a Windows NT 4.0-based computer to a Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) server that is running the latest PPTP hotfixes, you may receive the following error message:

Error 629: The port was disconnected by the remote machine


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0 version Windows NT version 4.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. service pack for Windows NT version 4.0 version Windows NT version 4.0.
