DHCP Scope Marked "Bad" After Windows NT Service Pack 3 Installation

SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 3 on a Windows NT-based computer that has the Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) service installed, TCP/IP addresses in one or more DHCP scopes may be displayed as "BAD". Entire scopes may be displayed this way when an internetworking device (such as a router), is not functioning properly, or the DHCP service receives an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) packet coded with the destination unreachable flag.


RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT Server version 4.0 Service Packs 3 and 4. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT version 4.0 Service Pack 5.
