Q217147 How to Restart Cluster Server After Clusdb Corruption
The Clusdb file is the registry used for Microsoft Cluster Server and is reproduced on both nodes when you are using cluster server. Cluster Server creates a copy of the Clusdb file named Chk???.tmp located in the \Mscs folder on the shared disk where the quorum information is.

To restore this .tmp file to the Clusdb file, follow these steps:
  1. Disable Cluster disk device on node A.

  2. Turn off node B with the cluster service disabled or set to manual.

  3. Copy the last known good Chk???.tmp file from the \Mscs folder on the shared SCSI drive to the \\Winnt\Cluster folder.

  4. Delete or rename the Clusdb file, and then rename the Chk???.tmp file to Clusdb.

  5. Enable the Cluster disk device on node A, restart node A. If node A starts normally, continue to the next step.

  6. From node A, copy the the \Mscs\*.tmp files to a 3.5-inch floppy disk.

  7. NOTE: The new file has the correct sequnce number for the cluster to use and you do not need to reinstall the second node.

  8. Start node B and copy the new \Mscs\*.tmp files to the \\Winnt\Cluster\Clusdb folder on node B, and then start the cluster service. If the service starts correctly, continue to the next step.

  9. Use Regback to save the cluster hive for future use.
