Slow Performance in TCP/IP When Reconnecting

SYMPTOMS

You may experience a delay when you attempt to re-establish a connection to a server right after you gracefully disconnect from the same TCP port on the server.

This problem occurs when the Transport Control Block (TCB) is in a "Timed_Wait" state.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6.
