NTVDM May Stop Responding After Quitting 16-Bit Programs

SYMPTOMS

After you apply Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 to your computer running Windows NT 4.0, 16-bit programs (such as Edit.com) may stop repsonding (hang) when you close them.


CAUSE

This problem is caused by a stack corruption because of an uninitialized variable.


RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6.
