NTFS Deadlock During Writethrough Caching

SYMPTOMS

When Writethrough is set for I/O requests to force cached data to disk and the IPX/SPX protocol is used, a deadlock may occur in NTFS.

NOTE: This problem may also occur using other protocols.


RESOLUTION

WORKAROUND

For Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 clients running IPX/SPX, enable IPX/SPX NetBIOS.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT 4.0. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6.
