Access Violation in Lsass.exe on Domain Controllers with FPNW Installed

SYMPTOMS

An "Access violation" error message may occur on a domain controller that has File and Print Services for NetWare (FPNW) installed. You may see a stack trace similar to the following sample trace in the Drwtsn32.log file after the error occurs:

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the wcsupr function in the stack trace is expecting to pass a null-terminated string as an argument. The problem occurs if, for some reason, it is passed a string that is not null-terminated.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows NT 4.0 service pack that contains this fix.
