Resource Leaks Through Iphlpapi.dll in Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When the program you are using loads or unloads the Iphlpapi.dll file on your computer running Windows NT 4.0 (for example, by a Winsock 2.0 layered service provider), a system resource leak may occur, especially a memory or a handle leak.


CAUSE

This behavior occurs because part of the source code for the Iphlpapi.dll file causes a leak in the file handle created in OpenIpDriver() and in three critical sections allocated in the DLL Entry function.


RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT 4.0. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6.
