Trust Relationships Return "STATUS_TRUSTED_DOMAIN_FAILURE" with LMCompatibilityLevel Setting of 4

SYMPTOMS

When you log on to a trusted domain, you may receive the following error message:

The trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed.
This error message can occur if the LMCompatibilityLevel setting is set to 4 on your domain controllers.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the domain controller is not accepting the logon request over the secure channel.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.
