DHCP fails to start using Inoculan on Compaq

SYMPTOMS

When you run Inoculan AntiVirus software on a Compaq Proliant 3000s server running Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 (including Service Pack 3 and a Software Support Diskette from January 1998), you may find that the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) service does not start. You may receive a Jetpack error message reporting Error 1811, and Event Viewer may record Events 1004, 1018, 1008, 1014, and 1016.

Also, if you reinstall the DHCP service, you may find that the DHCP database becomes corrupted every few days.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Inoculan software interferes with the DHCP service.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:

  1. Use the Add/Remove Programs tool in the Control Panel to remove the Inoculan program from the server.


  2. Download and install the latest service pack, and then restart the server.


  3. Recreate the DHCP database.

This problem is more likely to occur in Japanese localized builds, and may occur only very rarely in other (for example, English) builds of Windows 98 Second Edition.
