Windows 3.1 Setup /B Switch Does Not Affect Windows Settings

ID: Q82260

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows operating system versions 3.1, 3.11

The Setup program for Microsoft Windows versions 3.1 and 3.11 can be run in monochrome mode for compatibility reasons.

The command-line switch to run Setup in monochrome mode is "/B". For example, type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt:

   setup /b
The command-line Help message unclearly states that this switch sets up Windows with monochrome display attributes.

Using the /B switch with Setup causes Setup to run in monochrome mode, but has no effect on the actual Windows 3.1 display settings.
