Envelope Feeder Option Not Available on HP LaserJet Series III

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word for Windows, the "Printer's Envelope Feeder has been Installed" check box (accessed by choosing Options from the Tools menu and selecting the Print category) is unavailable if you are using the HP LaserJet Series III printer driver version 2.0 and version 3.1.2 of the Universal Printer Driver (UNIDRV.DLL), which is supplied with Microsoft Windows for Workgroups version 3.1.

CAUSE

This HP printer driver does not include an option to use the envelope tray on the HP LaserJet Series III. The only way to print envelopes with this configuration is to use the manual feed tray.

NOTE: The envelope tray is available for separate purchase from Hewlett- Packard.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:

• Install the HP LaserJet Series III printer driver version 31.3.89 (HPPCL5A.DRV), which is supplied with Windows version 3.1. When you use this printer driver, the "Printer's Envelope Feeder has been Installed" option is available.

• Install the HP LaserJet Series III printer driver version 30.3.86, which is a Windows version 3.0 printer driver supplied with versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, and 2.0b of Word for Windows. If you use this workaround, the "Printer's Envelope Feeder has been Installed" option is available.
  
  IMPORTANT: Version 30.3.86 of HPPCL5A.DRV does NOT support TrueType fonts. Do NOT use this workaround if you require TrueType font support; use the first workaround instead. For more information on the limitations of this workaround, query on the following words in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows for Workgroups version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
