INFO: UNIDRV/UNITOOL-Supported Color Models

ID: Q169600

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 95 Driver Development Kit (DDK)

SUMMARY

UNIDRV/UNITOOL supports a number of color models that can be used by printer minidriver developers.

MORE INFORMATION

UNIDRV/UNITOOL supports two different type of color models: planar and pixel.

Until recently, most color printers used planar models to represent color images. The planar model support is provided by DMCOLOR.DLL which UNIDRV/UNITOOL communicates with to render planar printer output. DMCOLOR.DLL supports only RGB planar format (UNIDRV's color bitmap buffer is three planes; Red, Green, and Blue, each with one bit-per-pixel).

In order to support the pixel model, you must provide an fnOEMDump callback function in your minidriver. UNIDRV can render images into a 4, 8, 16, 24, or 32 bits-per-pixel DIB format bitmap buffer and then pass the buffer to the callback function. The callback function sends the pixel color data to the printer. The Win95 DIB engine (DIBENG.DLL) is responsible for rendering the printer data into a pixel format.
