PRB: CM Warning: Device Does Not Allow Rebalance and Removal

ID: Q178655

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Win32 Device Driver Kit (DDK) Windows 95
on the following platforms: Win95, x86

SYMPTOMS

Under Windows 95, you may see a debug level 1 warning from the Configuration Manager that a device does not allow rebalance and removal.

CAUSE

Configuration Manager checks the ulFlags parameter passed to CONFIGMG_Register_Device_Driver. If either of the CM_REGISTER_DEVICE_DRIVER_DISABLEABLE or CM_REGISTER_DEVICE_DRIVER_REMOVABLE flags are not set, Configuration Manager sends this warning.

RESOLUTION

When you call CONFIGMG_Register_Device_Driver, specify both the CM_REGISTER_DEVICE_DRIVER_DISABLEABLE and CM_REGISTER_DEVICE_DRIVER_REMOVABLE flags to prevent this debug message from appearing and to allow the rebalance and removal of the device.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
