PRB: Windows 98 - Battery Status Is Slow to Update

ID: Q195309

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Win32 Device Driver Kit (DDK) Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

On Windows 98 ACPI systems the battery status, such as whether the battery is charging or discharging, is slow to update.

CAUSE

Under Windows 98, a battery status change (that is, charging or discharging) is not reflected in the user interface until the battery driver polls for status. An event such as a power source change (for example, AC attach or detach) typically triggers a General Purpose Event (GPE) and cause the user interface to update immediately.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
