Err Msg: VPWIN Caused an Exception in the Win16Subsystem

SYMPTOMS

In Windows NT, when you are editing a 256-color bitmap (.BMP) file that is Paste Linked into Ventura Publisher version 4.1, the following error message may occur:

VPWIN caused an exception in the Win16Subsystem

This error message usually occurs immediately after you change the .BMP picture, such as when you draw a line.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, select Paste Special (instead of Paste Link) in Ventura Publisher and then select Paste Link from the dialog box. The error message will not occur if this method is used.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1 and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
