Exiting TELNET Causes an Error in Terminal

ID: Q103148

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1

SUMMARY

When using Telnet with Windows NT, when you exit (using QUIT or BYE), the following error message occurs in Terminal:

The port which was in use is no longer available.
Please select another port.
Telnet uses Terminal as a front end for TCP/IP connectivity. The file TELNET.TRM is used as the Terminal settings file. When you exit Telnet by typing either QUIT or BYE, Terminal attempts to refresh the active communications port but cannot because the TELNET port is closed. To continue to use Terminal, you must choose a different port in the Communications dialog box.
