Disklock Is Not Compatible with Windows NT

ID: Q105026

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1

SUMMARY

You are unable to access Windows NT when you use Fifth Generation Systems Disklock. Disklock is a data security application that uses password protection and an optional data encryption scheme to keep your computer secure from unauthorized access.

If you run the Disklock installation program from within Windows NT, it will fail with an "Unable to locate physical sector" error message.

Disklock installs correctly from MS-DOS even if Windows NT is installed on your system, but when you attempt to start Windows NT, a STOP message appears:

   ***STOP: 0x0000007B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
Disklock must be removed (uninstalled) to be able to open Windows NT. This is a design feature of Disklock because it modifies the Master Boot Record on your hard disk drive so that it is unreadable unless DISKLOCK.SYS is loaded from CONFIG.SYS and the correct password is supplied.

The Disklock product included here is manufactured by Fifth Generation Systems, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
