DirectX 5: Invalid Page Fault on HP Pavilion Computer

SYMPTOMS

When you install DirectX 5 on certain models of Hewlett-Packard (HP) Pavilion computers, you may experience the following problems:

When you start GTE Quick Internet Connect, you receive the following error messages:

BROWSER.EXE caused an invalid page fault in module BROWSER.EXE.

-and-

BROWSER.EXE caused an invalid page fault in module OC30.DLL.

When you start the HP System Wizard (a diagnostic program included with HP Pavilion computers) you may receive the following error message:

SW caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll

This problem has been reported to occur with the following models of HP computer:

HP Pavilion 3100

HP Pavilion 3265

HP Pavilion 8160

HP Pavilion 8180
