BUG: WinVision 4.2 Crashes w/Internet Explorer 4.01 Under Win95

SYMPTOMS

WinVision 4.2 crashes when starting, minimizing, or maximizing Internet Explorer windows while the "Welcome - Microsoft Internet Explorer" window is running in the background.

WinVision is manufactured by Artic Technologies, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug with the vendor, Artic Technologies, in their product listed at the beginning of this article.

WinVision 4.2 is a screen access utility that describes the contents of the screen of a Windows application for computer users who are blind or have low vision.

Internet Explorer 4.01 (without the Desktop Update) must be installed on the system for this crash to occur.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Start the "Welcome - Microsoft Internet Explorer" window by starting the program Welcome.exe from the Internet Explorer directory if it is not already running.


  2. Start WinVision 4.2.


  3. Open folders on the Desktop and minimize and maximize them.


RESULT: A
Fatal Exception 0E at 0137:bff
error message is displayed.

NOTE: This problem does not occur when running on a system with Internet Explorer 4.01, Service Pack 2.
