BUG: WBEM SDK Setup Reports "Internal Error" and Doesn't Start

SYMPTOMS

Any attempt to install the WBEM SDK or WBEM Core Components results in the following error message:

"Installation Aborted!" with the text "Internal Error".


CAUSE

Following are three possible causes of this error:

  • There is no TEMP environment variable defined.


  • The TEMP environment variable points to a non-existent directory.


  • The person executing Setup does not have one of the following permissions: Read, Write, Delete, or Execute.



RESOLUTION

Make sure the TEMP environment variable points to a valid TEMP directory, and that you have all the required permissions to use this directory.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
