FIX: Creating a Huge Number of Files May Cause Error 1450

SYMPTOMS

Continuously creating files on an NTFS volume containing millions of files can lead to a situation where the system fails the file creation process with an out of resource error (error code 1450).

CAUSE

The actual number of files that can cause the problem is related to the amount of RAM installed.

RESOLUTION

Install service pack 4 for Windows NT 4.0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This bug was corrected in service pack 4.
