BUG: Applications Using WMI Perfmon Provider Cause Memory Leaks in WinMgmt

SYMPTOMS

Running Healthmon or other applications that use the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Perfmon Provider causes memory leaks in WinMgmt.


CAUSE

This problem is due to a bug in Perfctrs.dll; it does not call into Perf Provider DLLs to clean up their memory when the performance data is closed.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows NT 4.0 service pack that contains this fix.

STATUS
