INFO: Windows CE Network API Limitations

ID: Q238902

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows CE Operating System, versions 2.0, 2.11

SUMMARY

Here are some limitations to the Windows CE Networking APIs that are often asked about:

  • There is no API to dynamically control the routing of IP packets to the underlying network interfaces, for example, to force the system to use the PPP link instead of the Ethernet link.

  • There is no way for an application to dynamically stop and restart an NDIS network driver on the fly without rebooting the operating system.

  • There is no way to force the DHCP client to relinquish and renegotiate a DHCP lease. This is needed if you were able to dynamically stop and restart the NDIS driver.

MORE INFORMATION

All of these feature are planned for a future release.
