Changing Sound Event Causes H/PC to Stop Responding

SYMPTOMS

You may experience one of the following symptoms when you attempt to associate a sound with an event on your Handheld PC (H/PC):

  • You receive the following error message:
    The <filename> sound file can not be found. Do you want to use it anyway?
    Whether you tap Yes or No, your H/PC stops responding.


  • When you tap a sound in the Event Sound box, your H/PC stops responding.



CAUSE

This problem occurs when the sound file has a very long file name or path.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Reset button on your H/PC, and then press ON.

    NOTE: Any unsaved information will be lost.


  2. Tap the Start button, tap Settings, double-tap Volume & Sounds, and then tap the Sound tab.


  3. Tap the Scheme box, and then tap the Windows CE Default scheme.


  4. If you are prompted to save the previous scheme, tap No.


  5. Locate the sound file using My Handheld PC, and then rename the file using a shorter file name.
