PRB: Target System Does Not Boot Up When Ethernet Services Are Used

ID: Q232979

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows CE, versions 2.1, 2.11, 2.12 Embedded ToolKit (ETK)

SYMPTOMS

The target system does not boot up when you use Ethernet services for downloading and debugging the Windows CE operating system.

CAUSE

If Ethernet services are not started in right order the target system may not boot up.

RESOLUTION

When the options for eshell are set to Always Wait for Ethernet Services and you have started all of the Ethernet services, such as the debugger (Windbg.exe), CEShell (Cesh.exe), and CETerminal (Ceterm.exe), the target system may not boot up. To work around this problem restart Cesh.exe. If this doesn't help, restart all of the Ethernet services. If the order of starting the services is Eshell, Debugger, Cesh and CEterm it works consistently.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
