MAPI

MAPI is the messaging API. Active Directory™ provides MAPI support for backwards compatibility with Exchange applications. New applications should use ADSI for accessing the directory.

The Microsoft Management Console is the Windows® 2000 user interface for managing networks.

mixed mode

Windows 2000 domains are installed in mixed mode, by default. In mixed mode, the domain may have Windows NT® 4.0 backup domain controllers present. Nested groups are not supported in mixed mode. See native mode.
