Mobile Computing Features

Windows NT Workstation 4.0 has features that support mobile computing and also allow users to switch between portable and docking-station configurations. The features you choose will depend on the particular hardware and working needs of your mobile-computing users. Some of these features are not installed by default, but can be specified in the installation process during Network Setup. Or, they can be configured later, using control panel network settings.

The following mobile computing features might be useful in your organization:

• Hardware Profiles

• Remote Access Service client software for dial-up connection to the organization's network

• Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Briefcase for synchronizing files between computers

• Direct Cable Connection for directly linking two computers

• Remote mail and deferred printing, for working away from the main office

• Broader support for PCMCIA cards

• User profiles to provide a custom desktop for each user, no matter where users log on to the network
